Seamless Microcement Floors Amsterdam
From canal house to penthouse - seamless.
Microcement tailored to Amsterdam spaces
Amsterdam demands something different from a floor. Narrow staircases in the Jordaan, a listed canal house on the Herengracht, a loft in Noord or a concept store in the Nine Streets - every space has its own challenges. And that is exactly where microcement comes into its own.
Microcement is applied by hand in thin layers. No heavy concrete pour that risks overloading your canal house floors. No tiles to haul up a steep staircase. Just 3 millimetres of buildup, directly over the existing floor. That makes it ideal for renovations in the city centre, where demolition is not always an option.
The result is a seamless, continuous surface that makes small spaces feel larger and brings calm to open ones. From the hallway to the kitchen, from the bathroom to the stairs - everything in one material, without joints. In a city where every square metre counts, that makes a difference.
We work regularly in Amsterdam. From a 110 m2 concept store to private homes in Oud-Zuid and De Pijp. Curious what microcement could do in your space? We would love to come by for a no-obligation consultation.
Discipline As Foundation
Coated Surfaces grew out of a world where precision isn't negotiable. Founder Pom spent years as a professional dancer at Cirque du Soleil. Every night the same movement, down to the millimetre. That might sound far from floors and walls, but it's the opposite.
Microcement demands exactly that same control. Timing, feel, precision. The difference between a good floor and an exceptional one comes down to millimetres. We take the time it needs. No rushing, no half measures. Just lasting surfaces that bring calm to a space.

Applications in Amsterdam properties
Amsterdam canal houses demand a careful approach to materials. Old timber beam floors have strict weight limits, so traditional tiles are often too heavy. Microcement weighs just 3 to 4 kilograms per square metre - a fraction of tiles. That makes it perfect for upper floors in the Jordaan, Oud-Zuid, or De Pijp where structural load is a real concern.
In grachtenpanden I often apply Forcrete microcement directly over existing surfaces. No demolition, no hauling rubble down those narrow Amsterdam staircases. The primer, base coats, and finish are all applied on site with hand tools - everything fits through any door and around any corner.
For concept stores in the Negen Straatjes or along the Rokin, a seamless microcement floor makes a strong first impression. No grout lines trapping dirt, easy to clean, and built to handle heavy foot traffic. In penthouses along the Amstel, I apply microcement on underfloor-heated floors, kitchen countertops, and walk-in showers. Heat from underfloor systems distributes evenly through the thin build-up, and in wet areas the right sealer provides full waterproofing.

Why Coated Surfaces in Amsterdam
We are one of the few certified Forcrete installers in the Netherlands. That means we work with a microcement system that is fully waterproof - not just at the surface. Pom applies every layer himself, by hand. No subcontractors, no rushed work.
In Amsterdam, we completed a 110 m2 floor in a concept store, in collaboration with Floors In Style. That experience with Amsterdam properties - the upper floors, the narrow passageways, the light falling through tall windows - means we know what works in this city.
Canal houses along the Herengracht, lofts in the Houthavens, apartments in De Pijp: each type of home demands a different approach. Load-bearing capacity of wooden floors, height differences, access via steep staircases - these are not surprises for us, they are our daily work. We carry all materials in by hand and build up the surface without heavy machinery. The result is a floor or wall that does not just look beautiful, but lasts for years in a city that never stands still.
How does a microcement project work in Amsterdam?
It starts with a visit to your property. In Amsterdam, that is never standard. We inspect the substrate, measure the space and assess access - because if everything needs to go up three steep staircases, we plan for that upfront. For canal houses, we always check the wooden floor construction for load capacity and deflection. After that, you receive a proposal with colour selection, planning and a fixed price. No surprises afterwards. Execution takes an average of five to seven working days for a complete home. We work with dust screens and protect your interior as if it were our own home. Each layer is applied by hand and must cure before the next one can go on. That takes time, but it is precisely that care that makes the difference. Afterwards, we walk through the result together. Only when you are satisfied is the project complete.
