Bathroom Rotterdam
The Challenge
A bathroom without grout lines, without mould risk and without compromises. The clients in Rotterdam-South wanted a sleek, industrial finish that would make tiles entirely redundant.
Our Approach
The entire bathroom finished in Forcrete Quartz Coarse microcement. Floor, walls, walk-in shower and vanity form 33 m² of seamless surface. Hand-shaped slope in the shower floor and fully waterproof buildup.
The vanity is seamlessly integrated into the wall. No sealant that yellows, no corners where moisture creeps behind.
Tiles are the bathroom standard. But anyone who has ever cleaned a tiled bathroom knows how it ends. Discoloured sealant, mould in the corners and a floor that looks outdated after just a few years. In this project in Rotterdam-South, the owners chose a different approach. The clients wanted a sleek, industrial bathroom that would make tiles redundant. No grout lines, no mould risk, no compromises. We finished the entire bathroom in Forcrete Quartz Coarse microcement. Floor, walls and walk-in shower form one continuous surface. 33 m² without a single seam. One of the finest details in this project is the vanity unit. Instead of a freestanding cabinet with sealant edges all around, the vanity is seamlessly integrated into the wall. The microcement flows over and around the unit without interruption. No sealant that yellows or peels over time. No corners where moisture can creep behind. Just a clean, lasting finish that will look exactly the same ten years from now. A microcement shower floor stands or falls with proper drainage. In this bathroom we built the floor with the correct slope. Water runs directly and completely towards the drain - no puddles, no standing water. It sounds obvious, but it requires craftsmanship. The slope is shaped by hand during the buildup and must be accurate to the millimetre. The Quartz Coarse texture gives the bathroom a raw, mineral feel that perfectly suits the loft-style apartment in Rotterdam-South. Not slippery, not cold, yet not busy either. It is precisely that subtle texture that gives the space character without distraction. Microcement in a wet room demands a waterproof buildup. We applied it fully here. Floor, walls and shower zone are finished waterproof and built to withstand daily use. No mould, no moisture problems, no annual sealant repairs.
