Bathroom Rotterdam

In this Rotterdam-South project, the owners chose a continuous microcement finish instead of a visible grid of tiles and tile grout. The brief was a clean, industrial bathroom with careful attention to the technical details of a wet room. We finished the floor, walls and walk-in shower in Forcrete Quartz Coarse microcement. Together they form 33 m² of continuous visible surface. Technical junctions and sealant remain part of the bathroom and require inspection and maintenance. One of the distinctive details in this project is the vanity. Instead of a freestanding unit, it is integrated into the wall and finished in the same colour and texture. The microcement continues over and around the vanity, creating a calm composition without tile grout around the bespoke element. How the finish ages depends on use, ventilation, cleaning and maintenance. A microcement shower floor depends on the complete drainage design. In this bathroom, we formed the fall towards the drain by hand. The connection, fall and available height were coordinated for this project during the build-up. The Quartz Coarse texture gives the bathroom a raw, mineral feel suited to the loft-style apartment in Rotterdam-South. Its subtle texture gives the room character. Slip resistance is a separate property that depends on the selected finish, sealer, contamination and conditions of use. For this wet room, we applied the specified waterproof build-up to the floor, walls and shower zone. Even with a continuous visible finish, good ventilation, cleaning, sealant inspection and maintenance remain necessary to help prevent moisture and mould problems.
