Concept Store Amsterdam

Want the look of a polished concrete floor without pouring a new concrete slab? In this project we installed 110 m2 of microcement with that appearance in a concept store in the heart of Amsterdam. A polished concrete floor needs a concrete build-up suited to the structural design and available height. For this shop, the existing floor could serve as the base after assessment. The thin microcement finish was applied over it, without removing the floor, in approximately five working days. The total height of such a renovation always depends on the preparation required. The finish determines the final result. In this project the lacquer was polished to give the floor a subtle, light sheen. Not high-gloss, not matte. Exactly the appearance the client wanted. That choice was made with the interior designer: the store combines raw elements such as exposed roof beams and steel window frames with a refined lighting plan, and the floor needed to support that contrast. The colour palette is neutral light grey, a shade that reflects daylight from the large skylights. At the back of the store, an indoor garden is visually connected to the retail space by the continuous floor. The floor was specified for the shop's daily use: customers, clothing racks and cleaning rounds at the end of the day. The selected Forcrete build-up and sealer form part of that specification and the agreed maintenance. Wear and stain resistance still depend on load, cleaning and maintenance. This project was realised in collaboration with Floors In Style. They connected us with the client, and we carried out the complete microcement application. It is an example of how we are engaged as the executing party on larger projects, with the same attention to detail as in a home.
