A new kitchen, a different living-room floor and an awkward threshold at the extension: in a house renovated in stages, junctions often create visual clutter. Heemstede combines historic centres, green residential neighbourhoods and more urban housing. Homes around the Heemsteedse Dreef or in the Schilderswijk can have very different renovation histories. The building year alone tells us less than an extended floor, old tiling or replacement heating system.
We also discuss what should stay. Existing frames, a timber staircase and a kitchen in good condition need considered junctions. A thin finish can help in renovation, but levelling and repair contribute to the final height. We assess that before you commit.

From entrance hall to kitchen
A calm entrance floor can continue into an open kitchen, making the layout feel more coherent. We agree where it stops at stairs, timber floors or fitted cupboards. Necessary movement joints are incorporated carefully rather than simply covered.
Existing tiles are checked for adhesion, hollow areas, cracks and level differences. Only a suitable base can be retained. Microcement is not a levelling compound or a remedy for continuing movement; additional preparation is identified in the proposal.
A bathroom or kitchen wall can share the material direction, with a different specification for its use. Showers require appropriate falls and water-resistant junctions; a backsplash needs practical cleaning and worktop detailing. The appearance can be coordinated while each surface has the right construction.

Our Harmelen farmhouse shows microcement meeting timber, cabinetry and bespoke surfaces in an existing house. It is not a Heemstede project, but a relevant renovation reference. Notice how the finish relates to permanent features in the room.

Plan around a home that is still in use
Tell us whether you will stay in the house during work. Send photographs of the different floors, doorways and kitchen junctions. A simple plan helps establish access and which rooms will be unavailable.
After inspection, we agree preparation, finish and sequencing. Splitting a continuous floor into separate phases can affect the result, so phasing needs discussion in advance. Your fixed-price proposal includes drying and curing time and instructions for returning furniture and resuming daily use.
What does microcement cost in Heemstede?
Base prices are €140 per m² for floors and €180 per m² for walls and bathrooms, excluding VAT, with a €3,000 minimum project fee. Joining rooms may require tile preparation, levelling or repairs beneath a removed wall. Itemise that work so differences between quotations are understandable.

Good to know
Will doors need shortening?
It depends on clearance and the full build-up, including any levelling or reinforcement. We check relevant junctions before you alter doors, plinths or thresholds.
Can different existing floors receive one finish?
Sometimes, provided both bases can be prepared appropriately. Different movement, structural separation or levels may require additional measures. Necessary joints remain; photographs should show both floors and their junction.
Can we stay at home during installation?
That depends on layout and access. If the floor is the only route to the kitchen or staircase, living in the house may be impractical during part of the work. Include curing time in your plans.
