Sunroom Woerden

01

Challenge

Give 20 m² of existing tiled sunroom floor a calm, continuous appearance.
02

Approach

Retain the tiles, use THOMSIT R 755 as a moisture barrier and finish with Forcrete Quartz Coarse in Honey 2.
The tiles stayed. The sunroom took on a new character.

Plenty of glass, a soft seating area and a floor that brings the room together. For this sunroom in Woerden, we finished 20 m² in Forcrete Quartz Coarse, colour Honey 2. The existing tiles stayed in place. The result is a light, continuous floor with the variation of a hand-applied finish. Daylight brings out the nuances in the surface. Alongside the black frames, rug and woven baskets, the floor feels calm without looking flat. An important part of this project sits beneath the visible finish. We used THOMSIT R 755 as a moisture barrier, followed by the Forcrete Quartz Coarse finish. The barrier and surface layer each have a different role. This describes the materials used here, not a standard build-up for every tiled floor. Applying microcement over tiles starts with more than a colour choice. The existing floor, preparation and junctions together determine the appropriate build-up. This project shows the result with the tiles retained, not that any tiled floor can be finished without assessment. Even across 20 m², the floor makes a difference. It gives the seating area a quiet foundation while the light and materials in the sunroom keep their character. A new appearance, built on the existing floor.
